In Gamesmaster,
Gamesmaster, What Have You Done?! a GM discovers that he's
short a player (you can't play D&D with a DM and
three players? I've done it with one). So to compesate,
he summons and binds a demon, using the instructions from the
back of an old Boglins
toy and a bit of leftover Big Mac microwaved for six minutes and
sixty-six seconds (which my inner pendant wants to point out is
really seven minutes and six seconds, but that number isn't quite
as evil).
Tortured with the fact
that he has been summoned, bound, and forced to play a paladin
character, Boglin proceeds to find any way that he can to ruin
the game for everyone.
GMGMWHYD?! was created with a camcorder by a group of
gamers on a day when they were feeling particularly silly. And
really, it shows - the characters, premise, plot, acting, and
some (but not all) of the special effects are downright dumb.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. In fact, if you watch
GMGMWHYD?! with this in mind, it becomes a lot more fun
to watch. This is even doubly so when watching the movie with
the commentary track turned on, and listening to the cast mocking
their own performances.
STORY
- There's not a lot of story here.
CHARACTERS
- The characters
LAUGHS
& GASPS - You'll likely find yourself laughing at
this film more than laughing with it, but the directors
and cast have made it clear that it's all okay. In fact, they
mock themselves in the commentary. Therefore, GMGMWHYD?!
gets five dice.
REFERENCES
& REALITY - Lance's character is called a "midget,"
rather than a halfling or gnome (or whatever he's really supposed
to be).
BONUS
DICE - GMGMWHYD?! gets XX Bonus Dice. One die
is for the cover. Yeah, it's superficial, but the cover art for
the DVD is great. Another dice is tossed in for the special effects,
which were added to the film before the DVD release, and are actually
very good (It might've been a neat touch to have a DVD extra with
the original, pre-SFX scenes in a side-by-side comparison).
DICE BAG -
Gamesmaster, Gamesmaster, What Have You Done?! has earned
a bag of XX dice. It's
"Your
jester has begun to fester!"
