Pets:
3 cats, all of whom are named after characters/npcs from games, a reef
tank, and 2 mantis shrimp. Mantis shrimp are a kind of crustacean, and
arguably the most intelligent of invertebrates. There's some debate
about who's smart, octopuses or stomatopods.
Religion:
I'm a Quaker, with Theist leanings.
Political
party/affiliation: I'm a Liberal Republican, or
Conservative Democrat. I exam candidates on an individual basis.
Education:
I have a degree in getting a degree (a BFA in Interdisciplinary Arts).
I games through late middle and early high school, an extremely
Munchkinly form of AD&D. I was never able to get my group to
try out Call of Cthulhu. I've still never played, though I've read most
of the game line.
Hobbies/Activities:
Reef keeping and cooking.
Community
service: I donate to several charitable organizations.

Just to
test the stereotype - Have you ever lived, or are you currently
living, in your parents' basement? Well... when I was
in college we had a
basement apartment. I like basements, they stay cool in summer.
What is
your favorite way to spend a weekend? I really miss
LARPing,
live action role playing. I prefer boffer LARPs (foam rubber weapons).
The
immersive experience is a blast, and hey, it lets me endulge in
cathartic
violence and still be a Quaker, what's not to love?
What is
your most prized physical possession? My computer, it
rocks.

What is
the most frightening thing you've ever done? I nearly
got fired
at work for doing something stupid, and the thought that I would no
longer be
able to provide for my wife utterly terrified me.
Which of your
accomplishments are you the most happy with? Being a
good husband, in spite of being a smart aleck.
What was your first word?
"Damn truck!" was the first thing I said, I heard it a lot from my Dad
when he drove.
What is your favorite
word? You know, I don't really have a favorite, I like a
lot of words.
How many languages do
you speak? English, if you can call it that.
What is your favorite
time of year, and why? Fall, cool nights, and warm days,
the changing of the leaves, nights with slow moving fogs winding
through the trees...
If you could change one thing
about yourself, what would it be? I'd have a higher
metabolism, being fat and tired sucks.
What was your favorite
toy as a child? Legos, I loved my legos and it drove me
nuts that my brother would demolish my lego space ships just to get my
attention.
What makes you cry? The
ending of B5 had me bawling, cutting onions, the thought of losing my
wife or one of our kitties.

What is
your favorite section of the newspaper? Op-Ed
What are
three things you can't live without? Books, the
internet, and a kitchen to call my own.
What did
you want to be when you grew up? A herpetologist -
someone who studies reptiles and/or amphibions, salamanders and newts
to be specific.
What is
your favorite mode of transportation? I love to fly,
even staring out the window at clouds makes me happy.
If you
could pick any other time period to live in - including the future -
which would it be, and why? The future, shortly before
the Singularity.
You've
just purchased a small island off the coast of any continent of your
choosing, and you are preparing to start your own country there. What
does your flag look like? Red dragon, rampant, facing
sinister, on a black background. What, I've given it thought.

Tell us
about your favorite RPG character that you've ever played. Lanifear
is a Melnibonean in all but name. He was in a friends
AD&D/homebrew game.
Proof that evil is not stupid. In one of the early sessions, through
sheer force of
personality, he brow beat a group of supernatural monsters into
becoming his
servants. The GM and the other players kept having these "how did he
talk us
into this?!?" moments. He was a blast to play, and one of my favorites.
Lanifear had true charisma, and used it. He did a lot of terrible
things, but he
honestly believed he was doing them for all the right reasons.
What are
your favorite RPGs? Amber DRPG, GURPS, and Truth and
Justice.

|
| What was
your first RPG session like? I played AD&D with
my friends Troy, Jon, and Howie, it was Munchkinpaluza. We had +7 and
+9 items, because more is better.
What was
your WORST RPG session like? What made it so bad? It was
at a con, about 6 or 7 years ago. The GM was tired, I'm a roleplayer,
the other players where all combat mongers, and it was just a mess. It
was an RPG only by virtue of being run using an RPG system.
Who is
your all-time favorite person to game with? My wife
Susie, we have a pair of characters we play... I play Andrew and she
plays his best friend/brother in all but genetics, Kyle. She plays a
guy scarily well, and the gaming is a hoot.
Do you
have anything gaming-related to plug? Yes, Chad
Underkoffler's Truth and Justice: http://www.atomicsockmonkey.com/products/tj.asp
I've played/GM'd a number of superhero RPGs over the years, and
T&J is the first to get the feel of comics right, not just the
powers. Buy the book!
