What is the most frightening
thing you've ever done? Admit to myself that I have
squandered my potential.
Which of
your accomplishments are you the most happy with? Her
name is Lily, and she loves princesses, Barbie, Star Wars and
Spider-Man.
What was
your first word? Depends on whom you ask. Mom says it
was "more", but Dad says it was either "Dad" or "No". I was there but I
don't remember.
What is your favorite word?
I have a lot of them, really. I can't pick just one, but "bullhonky" is
close to the top.
How many
languages do you speak? English, Spanish and a dribble
of German.
What is
your favorite time of year, and why? Summer. Heat,
sunshine, energy, storms, balmy breezes, green leaves, short nights,
humidity, mist, the fever-dreams of youth.
What is
your most prized physical possession? Hmn. That's tough.
I'll answer this by saying that I cannot answer it.
If you
could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would be more driven -- actually, more applied to what I want. I
wouldn't be a shark, an opportunist; I'd be...more dogged, I guess.
Did you
have any embarassing nicknames as a kid? No, not
really. There was a bully in Mexico who called me "Picasso" because I
drew a picture on the chalkboard one day, but I just kind of shrugged
it off because he was an idiot.
What was
your favorite toy as a child? Star Wars action figures,
man.
What makes
you cry? I wept like a freaking firehose when my
daughter and I first watched Star Wars, and the "Jurassic Bark" episode
of Futurama...I can't watch it. The end of it -- okay, I GOTTA MOVE ON
TO ANOTHER TOPIC NOW QUICKLY YES THANK YOU I'LL TAKE TWO.
What is
your favorite section of the newspaper? The comics.
"Foxtrot" and "Get Fuzzy" are aces, and "Close To Home" is shameful,
deplorable crap.
Do you
have a useless talent that no one else that you know can do? I'm
sure my talents are not unique. But I can pick up a book that I've just
been reading and start reading again at the EXACT beginning of the next
paragraph.
What are
three things you can't live without? Freedom, love and
humor.
If you
could have one superpower, which power would you pick? I
would fly. I want the feeling of power and freedom -- the ability to
slip gravity's bonds and be beholden to its grasp only by my own will.
Also, commuting would cost less.
What did
you want to be when you grew up? George Lucas, only
with better sense. I would not have given you Jar-Jar Binks, my
brothers and sisters.
What is
your favorite mode of transportation? I want a flying
car.
If you
could pick any other time period to live in - including the future -
which would it be, and why? I honestly and sincerely
often fanatsize about living out my teens and early 20s in the period
between 1977 and 1987. The 1930s would've been good, too, working as a
pulp SF writer. Plus: Art Deco!
What is
one thing that you regret that you would go back and change if you
could?
I would've gone to college right after high school, and here at IU. I
would've reined in my youth and ridden that sucker like a bull in a
rodeo.
What is
the one thing you want to do before you die? Be the
best father my daughter could ever, ever have.
You've
just purchased a small island off the coast of any continent of your
choosing, and you are preparing to start your own country there. What
does your flag look like? It's purple and has a d20 on
it.
Would you
like a frosty cold root beer? It's an A&W. Yes,
thank you kindly.
